wow ... memories, I caught a Coyote pup, really young in one of my weasel traps we had on the farm to protect our geese, chickens, and pheasant. Well long story short Momma took it to the vet to set the broken leg, nursed her back to health, and figured we cant set here loose so we kept her and had her spayed, named Her Fable because she never leaned to bark. She would howl at you and tell you stories. 15 years, Best friend EVER!

The coyote is turned back to him and is not growling nor licking its nose nervously or wagging tail. The ears are pulled back but it seems more in a playful/slightly annoyed manner. If it wanted to bite him, it would. Those are just playful nibbles. It's not "fighting its instincts as a predator", it does not "try to hunt the man", it's just interacting with him like it would with its pack mates.

I had a coyote once, and they're surprisingly good pets. They never really forget that they're a coyote, though. We thought she was a dog puppy suffering from parvo; took her to the vet for treatment and no one bothered to check. Stuck with us after that. (Or no one said anything.) Grew into a rowdy black coyote.

That 'yote and me were tight for more than a decade.
