The barter exchanges of the 80's were regulated and taxed. Bilateral bartering is very cumbersome. Barter is not a panecea.

Cryptocurrencies "seem" volatile but they are also a global phenomenon. Looking at the exchange rates for USD, Euro, Yuan and Rubles doesn't paint a picture of non-volatility either.
All while within a market which is using the same currency for all transactions (in a country) the USD does not seem very volatile (when disregarding things like in- or deflation for now).
Wouldn't the same hold true for a whole planet using the same crypto?

The UK has used the Faster Payment system since 2008. It gives almost instant transfer of funds.
