I don't have good memories of youth sports, and I am a bit suspicious of all these alleged benefits.

It is very expensive, basketball league wanted $150 last fall soccer was $125. I have 2 so just one year cost me $550 to sign them up then I had to buy the gear they needed and then I’m easily spending of $1, 000. With the rising cost of everything I can see why it’s been hard on a lot families.

IMO Youth sports as we know it will not exists. I believe High school sports will go away too. Not because of video games but because of the European/Club model.

Travel sports are killing rec sports, not video gaming. There's only a limited amount of resources and people to support sports and too many have been diverted to travel sports.

I honestly think its more the parents not signing their kids up than the kids wanting to stay home and play video games. We have more single moms having to work overtime to make ends meet, theres just not enough hours in the day. My oldest son played soccer and my daughter did gymnastic for a short time. It was tough but i made it work because i wanted them to be able to experience things and be a part of a team. My youngest tried baseball when he was 6yrs old but he HATED it so i let him quit after the 1st couple practices. I didnt want him to think it was ok to just quit something bc he had a bad day BUT i also was not about to force him to do a sport that he legitimately wasnt into.

a lot of kids these days get hooked on video games early in life and never develop an interest in other activities
