Glo Bugging trout | how to use flies on a spinning rod

preview_player
Показать описание
A glo bug, or glow bug is a fly that is used to imitate a trout egg that has just hatched, which is something that is a food source for wild trout. Glo bugging is a technique used to catch trout in late autumn and winter each year.
Thankfully here in Victoria we have a closed trout season to protect spawning trout, so glow bugging is usually restricted to the last few weeks of the trout season.
My rod: Crucis 642 travel rod.

G'day Robbie. Way back when, I used this method on my favorite trout river, the Thredbo. The key is to get it as close to the river bed as possible. I used to leave a tag of a few cm's to which you could add split shot to get it just rambling over the bottom. Also you could add a trailing nymph about 30 to 40 cm's from the glow bug. Often they would hit the nymph more then the glow bug. I believe Starlo was one of the first to bring this method to Australia, having learnt it from the Americans.

I’ve never tried it but a bloke I met fishing for trout behind my place was using a polystyrene ball dipped in orange food colour with a split shot embedded within it. Seemed to be working for him. Good to see the fockers are still living there. Cheers buddy.

Wow very cool fishing session mate! I’ve never heard of a glo bug before but they look great!
I’ve just tested positive to covid so I’ll be able to watch some videos as they come out now, without being busy

Great session mate. The Farkers were on fire :D I went out for a looksee on Wednesday. The rivers were nice and clear in some places, but running too high to really bother. I did not have a rod, but was oping to get out later in the week before close of season this weekend. Not to be so I will just live gratuitously through your video :D
