In every garden there are weeds. A weed is seen as an unwanted plant,
however, maybe they should just be moved since they SHOULD be wanted!
They are heat tolerant, drought tolerant, free, perennial, and super
nutrient-dense. You don't even have to forage for these!

Hi Mlgardener,
correction: the Vietnamese coriander ( rau răm) has a strong herb scent. We use it as often as basil for salad, etc. The one you’re mentioning is an actual weed, and has no scent at all, I think it can be toxic! Rau răm loves water and barely survive in the ground. They both look identical, as a native Vietnamese I cannot tell the difference until I smell them. Please beware! 🙏🙏🙏

I love the plantain and purselane for sure. I plan on eating more of the yard wild goodies every year as I get to know them better

This was very enlightening. I just weeded my basil bed and threw away Lamb's Quarter and wild Amaranth without knowing it. I knew to keep the purslane, though, and gave it it's own row in my cucumber bed. Hoping to see a lot of it.

Purslane is a part of turkish cuisine. We eat it as dish cooked together with sauteed onions, garlic, a little rice and tomatoes. It is delicious that way. It is slightly acidic and delicious that way. It can also be eaten raw as a salad when mixed with garlic yogurt.

Wood sorrel is another great one, they look like a miniature clover without the chevrons, they have a lemony taste.

Great video, I've heard people survived the depression because they knew what weeds to eat. Everyone thinks they should hate dandelion but don't know that it was brought here from Europe as a medicinal plant.

I'll try this to garnish rice and chicken ( baked) butter, chicken broth. More of a buttery dish. Add some to salad. 🥬🥗🍛

Vietnamese here, the Vietnamese Coriander is one of my favorite herbs. It's great with chicken dishes.

Just a suggestion, you may want to show a spurge weed next to purslane. Some people get them confused. Spurge is toxic.

Thanks for highlighting some tasty garden weeds! Dandelions, lambs quarter, amaranth, and purslane would be worthy of planting and growing in a garden, if they didn't do that so easily by themselves. Lambs quarter is one of the best cooked greens, even compared to garden greens - and so simple to just saute for about 3 minutes with a little water, then top with a little salt. Don't weed the garden -- harvest an extra crop! : )

I have NO weeds meaning of the word weed is unwanted plant. The sad part is in many places indengious food and healing plants are termed weeds and over time so much knowledge gets lost.Bless yall any everyone who is helping waking up people to our wild foods again.

Lambsquarter and wild mustard are my favorite weeds for taste. Dandelions are my favorite to keep healthy.

Thank you so much for this valuable video ! I can't believe how much of these nutritious "weeds" I got rid of in the past when I could have been enjoying them with my children ! NEVER AGAIN !!!

Also clover is a great one, you can identify it by chevrons on the leaves, the flowers are edible as well (But don’t eat to many as they can cause bloat).

All of these and more grow in my yard and the surrounding area as well as many edible mushrooms and small game/fish.
It's a grocery store in the woods.
