I remember reading "The remains of the day" by Kazuo Ishiguro and felt a connection with this movie. Just as Mr. Stevens, the butler who had served all his life with complete dedication towards his profession, had realised that all his work didn't amount to anything and his sacrifices meant nothing to anyone, the protagonist here faces the same stark realisation and dillema. Sharad, the disciple, an ardent follower of his master wants to excel in his artistry and strives hard to improve. He keeps practising day and night for years, but is still unable to reach the level of finesse required to become a master. He is troubled by youngsters with mediocre ability getting fame and recognition. He is troubled by how the ancient Alwar tradition is dying. This is a story of realisation. It's the story of countless such people lost in the crowd, forgotten. People who have finally come to terms with reality and accepted their fate. They are content with their present lives but still a tinge of melancholy creeps within as they recall their lost ambitions and aspirations.

No subtitles so I am putting here what is being said - this is about Indian classical music which has raag's ( diff tunes) to attain connection with God and achieve salvation and enlightenment. It's not normal music for entertainment. Granma is saying, if u want to chase money family then listen or produce normal music and don't chase this path of music as this path needs full attention n devotion where u will be alone and broke. U can't do materialistic things and chase this path. Ancient Indian sages found music n its methods to walk spiritual journey like other paths i.e yoga, rituals, meditation etc.
