You should do a cold weather video featuring wool . What wool clothing do you use hunting / hiking and winter camping . Do use military surplus wool or high dollar Fillson wool. Let use know what’s out there from decent budget wool clothing - to the high dollar wool clothing. Maybe even vintage wool clothing.

Great video. Those gloves are similar to ones that I use. I use kingco cowhide leather work gloves. They keep my hands warm until about 20 F and then I switch over to the lined version. I always keep them treated with waterproofing spray and they work great.

Good to know! Keen boots have always been really good. Thanks for sharing!

I've always wanted to live in the Rockies and you channel is really reinforcing that. Thank you, and I love your channel!

I've had the Ridgeway gloves for a couple of seasons. I live at 8700 ft. I found that adding a thin silk liner does the trick down to 0F.

Aaron, informative and timely video - thank you. I'm going to look into some of these products - particularly, the Ferrosi jacket, gaiters and gloves. I noticed you have not mentioned any wool clothing, do you not use them at all? I was perusing some Youtube channels and came across a company called Wiggy's - based in Colorado I think, that makes some - seemingly incredible warm/cold weather insulated products - base layers, socks, jackets, etc. I just might check out their base layer. I have absolutely zero affiliation with that company, but wonder if you have heard of them.

Thanks for including links to retailers other than Amazon. IMHO we should support these retailers or one day there won't be any place to buy goods - any goods, other than from Jeff Bezos.

Keens and Smartwool are some of the best. Alaskan certified!!! Any more random winter gear reviews or top "x" lists are much appreciated!
Maybe battery powered coats and jackets to review? I'm a DeWalt 20v man, myself!

Good overview of the stuff u use in the winter Aaron, thank u!! I have loved the Ferrosi hoody since i first heard u talking about years ago and that works for me for about 90% of the year. It gets cold here in the Northeast, but i run pretty hot, so that jacket works for me into the middle of winter and then the Ferrosi winter jacket is what i use if it gets bitingly cold with some of the winds we get around here. That grid hoody is nice though too when im out shoveling; the vents down the arms are sick!! Thanks for all u do man!

Thanks for sharing.
Much love from Switzerland

Unfortunately, both OR and Smartwool do not make gear for larger guys. The Smartwool gloves only go up to size XL which fits about the same as most companies L.
OR is the same way... Their XXL jacket has the same (or smaller) specs as most competitors XL. I get excited about your reviews, only to discover they don't make a single thing for someone who is tall and broad shouldered.

Hestra ergo grip active. They are my favorite cold weather glove when in the woods. They are $109.00 so a little more than the $90.00 smartwool that you showed but worth it. Plenty of dexterity, warmth & durability. Hestra has a great reputation and a lifetime guarantee. Would I wear this particular model below zero...absolutely not but I think they are comparable to the gloves you showed. They do of course make gloves for colder temperatures but I can't vouch for the dexterity on those since I haven't tried them.

Put some latex gloves on first, and put the mechanics standard gloves on. It hats how I keep my hands warm at work when it’s cold out.

Works pretty good in the 30s and 40s.

I have keen waterprrof boots they are the more "sporty" looking model idr.. I wore then for a week in Colorado and they were absolutely fantastic.. but unfortunately the seem of the lower is starting to split from the upper already :( Still recommend them tho!

Thanks for the recommendations! As a southerner who now lives in colder climes, this should help me survive a much harsher winter than I am accustomed to! Also, have you ever tested any Teton sports equipment? Are they worth trying out for less crucial gear or as a budget option for new backpackers?

Great video! I’ve been eyeing the Ferrosi for a while. I’m curious about the non insulated one; do you think that with a good grid fleece, that it’s about the same as the insulated Ferrosi? Just thinking about the possible versatility of two layers rather than one.

I never found a link to the Keen boots. Where is the best place to buy them? Thanks!

Layering! Around here in WI I can be out hiking in 20 degrees and you start out cold it’s nice to strip off a layer or two before you get too sweaty. Moisture management is key. I’ve found that my two key pieces of gear are a good beanie hat and several pairs of gloves. My ears and fingers get so cold I have poor circulation there. Going to try a pair of thick leather mittens this year I’m thinking. Something that will break the wind well. Those keens are awesome boots I have some for work, the unlined leather ones. Good stuff.

With that said, last year we got some of those “arctic blasts” where we had several days of -20 or less and one day the windchill was -40. No way I’ll go out in that!

I do love winter hiking though! Like you said the trails are pretty empty.

Btw which victorinox knife was that? It had a much larger blade than mine!

Would be cool to see some real "cold weather" stuff. These are cool but winters where im at are usually below 0°
