I used to actually over clean my belly button to the point I got a fungal infection!!! I used to scrub and make sure it was completely clean. So, clean, but it doesn't have to be squeaky clean. Learn from my mistakes.

I’m surprised the patient didn’t smell it. Cuz bellybuttons will stink really bad if you don’t wash them at least every other day. Don’t forget behind the ears and between your toes and under your nails ❤

Hmm as someone who cleaned their belly button every day be careful. I used to clean mine everyday til I noticed that it had split(I have an innie) it became red and moist from the split. To this day it’s still messed up it goes from either really cracked and dry to red and irritated. So be gentle on your belly buttons and please for the love of god don’t poke other people’s belly buttons.

I also found mine when I was about 18, it wasn't as big, but still. My mom always taught me not to touch my belly button, so I didn't know it should be cleaned. I just didn't notice it was dirt until I got it out.

These comments are making me lose faith in humanity. How do so many parents fail their kids in not teaching them basic hygiene like cleaning out your belly button, washing your a$$ and scrubbing your legs EVERY shower. Truly disgusting I fear..

When I was a kid my mum had this routine of five things to wash: face, ears, armpits, belly button and private areas.

I never really knew what’s the big deal with it as it didn’t seem like a place where dirt would accumulate, as my belly button is one of those super open ones like a crater. I haven’t really seen anyone else’s and when I did I remember thinking ew what’s wrong with theirs, and it started to make sense why it’s important to wash it because whilst mine is super open and accessible other’s may not be
