Programming Tutorials Are A Lie

I hate to admit it but programming tutorials are not realistic. No one is able to code as quickly and as error free as what is shown in tutorials. This doesn't mean tutorials are bad, but it does mean that you shouldn't compare yourself to someone in a tutorial video. This person is most likely referencing pre-built code and cutting out any mistakes they make. This makes the tutorial better, but paints an unrealistic impression of what a good programmer looks like. I can assure you that I can't even code as quickly as I do in my tutorials, so do not let that discourage you.

🧠 Concepts Covered:

- Why programming tutorials are a lie
- How live stream coding is still not 100% accurate
- Why programming tutorials should not emulate real programming
- What you can learn from programming tutorials

I really appreciate the honesty behind this, not only does it put many peoples minds at rest on why they aren’t as good as the tutorials, but it’s also eye opening.

📠 📠 📠, also no one mentions the amount of time it takes to prepare for recording a tutorial. Spending hours building, testing and polishing up a project then needing to build it again to record. Very very time consuming.

Thanks for a very honest video. I think another thing what is seldom mentioned is that there is just too much info you have to go over to create a todo app yourself, without referencing your second screen with a working code. And that can be immensely frustrating to newer developers because they got used to watch the ready baked solutions. So it suddenly turns out that you have to spend waaay more time working on your own then what you are used to while following a tutorial on YouTube.. Guess this contributes a lot to the imposter syndrome many of us get! It’s like when your friends only post the perfect photos of theirs on social media and you don’t get to see the whole picture what is usually far from perfect.. same here a 30 min tutorial on YouTube === 3 8 hour days of actual work.

Thank you for this!! You're so great! I was following one of your tutorials and I was getting a bit disappointed with myself since you seem to know everything and just write code with zero mistakes and I always look stuff up and felt a bit dumb. This was much needed to get some confidence back!
