Crown Vic was the best car Ford ever made.

One of the greatest automatic ford transmissions and honestly when they put this together it was meant to be taken apart and it not be hard as hell. Once again proving nothing beats or kills a Crown Vic

On AOD's the most common cause is the TV cable breaking loose from the plastic bushing that holds it to the throttle linkage.

I've done an AOD, 727 and a C-4, not really knowing what I was doing. Turned out all these had drums seals as hard as glass. The drivers brought them to me right as they were slipping. I was amazed how clean they were inside plus some of the frictions still had the part numbers visible.

Yes! An "Old Timer" here.
WATCH the 3-4 accumulator! Can be a source of 3-4 shift "flare" and other issues as well.

Not a transmission tech but started my apprenticeship at a transmission shop. Stayed friends with a master builder thru 40+ years. It is my understanding that Ford had made those seals as a planned absolesense. Those seals were so hard that they were apt to fail because they caused scoring or grooves.

Check the vb plate. Right by the small accumulator. It cracks. Transgo makes a nice kit that works well in them.

Usually grooves inside the drum if those seals are worn. Also output shaft metal rings break and damage case.

I have a 1996 with 506, 000 miles on it. That car doesn't do anything but run. "Old Timers?" It is far, far more reliable than my 10R80. Or any of my co-workers' cars. GREAT SHORT VIDEO!

I'm rebuilding my 4R75E and its direct hub, direct clutch, direct drum failed. I think the bearing failed and took out the drum and some other minor wear but looks like that's the only point of failure. Seals are hard and other clutches aren't bad but steels have blue spots. What do you think caused that direct forward pack to fail?

Old timer here . There are no 3-4 clutches in the AOD or the 4R70W. From front to rear there's intermediate clutches over drive band reverse clutches forward clutches reverse band and direct clutches. Please explain which ones are the 3-4s. The most common issue in these are the splines striping out in the direct drum.

A 9V battery can test the EPC for go/no go, but it won't test for PWM operation commanded by the PCM. Also, the valvebody connector on these leak thru the pins when they crack from heat, shorting your PCM or causing erratic issues.

I would have a C-4 over the AOD for a Crown Vic with nitrous. Why the AOD is a good transmission and I have had several. My 89 Mustang 5.0 is now C-4 with a manual reverse pattern valve body. Handles the 250 shot better.
