Calculating Percent Error

If you are ever doing a lab and need help with percent error, look no further. (lyrics below)

It doesn't make a difference what you've been through,
You can't be perfect no matter what you do.
You'll always be messin' up to some extent,
That's why we have to measure it with a percent.

It's as vital as putting your name on the lab;
Skip it and expect some crap from Sabs.
In order to save your project from terror,
You need to calculate the percent error!

Whenever there's a value that you have to find,
You need to see how close you are to being right.
That's what percent error is all about;
It shows your accuracy without a shadow of doubt.

There are many who have found this value before you.
They've come up with a value that they consider true.
This is what you use to find your percent;
You want yours as close as you can get.

This value that they found, they call it accepted.
You compare it with the one you found; experimental.
There's not much left that you have to do;
Just put it in the formula and you're through.

Absolute value of actual minus test,
Put it over actual, you already know the rest.
Multiply it by 100, that's how it's done,
And that right there is your percent error, son.

The worst thing you could ever do is lie,
Since finding percent error takes very little time.
Even if you have an error of 100%,
You can always go and try it again.

Find any sources that you can detect;
Change them so next time you can be more correct.
Whether you measured the wrong line, or had bubbles on the side,
You need to find percent error every single time.

Subtract the two, absolute value,
Put it over accepted, and that should do.

Divide this number and see what you get,
Multiply by 100, and that's your percent.
If you did it correctly all the way through,
then you should've gotten 3.2.

Even if your data outlies way wide, on the side,
Don't cry, besides, you can have a second try.
Just abide by guide the lab provides, no lies,
Do that, and you'll get it right next time!
