What are electoral bonds?

How do they work?

Do they make political funding more fair and transparent, or do they make things worse?

Swarajya editorial director R Jagannathan breaks it all down and tells you straight.

More importantly, he tells you about a problem that you may have missed about electoral bonds.

When their rival comes to power, you really think they don't have the power over the banks to actually check the records on who donated to whom.

The solution is to have state funded elections, with tax exemption to incentivise small donors.

Mr. Jagannathan, if the issue is businessmen wanting anonymity then they could just deliver the bonds anonymously (via post or other means) or we could have a system where the bank could deliver it to a recipient of the donor's choice (if need be for a small fee) . No one is stopping a contributor from doing so anonymously. So it is unclear why you see the issue as this is hurting the contributor. I really doubt the businessmen are worried about being targeted and the smart ones contribute to both albeit more for one over the other.

We are discussing a few hundred crores worth bonds When thousands of crores in black are caught which is also a small percentage of actual. It is purchasing seats. Serious discussions should start.
