Correction: he was not Aurelius’s only male heir. Aurelius had 14 children with his wife. Commodus was the only male heir to outlive his father. Aurelius had probably prepared several of Commodus’s other brothers who were better fit to be his successor, but alas. A great man’s foolish son ruined his legacy and the glory of Rome.
