Dougie Thomson and Bob Siebenberg, probably the most underrated rhythm section ever!

The last 30-60 seconds of this song is an absolute eargasm. 40 years later still makes my hair stand up.Truly a great band that I've been fortunate to have seen 2x and wish I could get just 1 more channce to see. LOVE YOU SUPERTRAMP

Our theme song! In 1979 we had just been dating a couple of months, and my boyfriend was getting ready to go to Paris for a year for study abroad. This is one of the last songs we heard together before he left (and my name is Mary, so “goodbye Mary” meant me!). He would be gone so long we had no idea how things would turn out. But the way it DID turn out, he missed me so much he flew back home three months later to marry me and take me back to Paris with him for the rest of the year. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary last year, and this song brings it ALL back.

In my humble opinion, that’s still one of the best guitar solos EVER. Hated how the radio stations would almost never let it play right to the end and fade out! 🔪

My cousin Billy died of cancer, in the summer of 1995. We were extremely close and the day we buried him, as the procession drove into the cemetery, this song came on the radio in my car. We were stopped in the road, as they took his casket out to his final resting spot. It was a shining gold casket. The sun was beaming off of it, sending out tiny sparkles and almost a rainbow effect.
Every time I hear this song, I fall apart, thinking of him being taken out of the hearse.

Wow, that singer has two different voices I thought those high notes had to be a bunch of women backup singers but no it was the same guy.

The outro to this song is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

This is a song that I remember from my teenage years. Now it’s giving me new hope as I’m going through a very rough time in my life and I’m struggling with the dark demons of depression.

You know, I'm now 75 yrs old and I've lived my life like this song. Good-bye Mary, Good-bye Jane. I hope you are doing fine. My troubles are few and I'm doing fine. I believe in my heart that you are doing great too.
