In October the NEW*** MB 102*** will be available in the USA that is both a Front Vertical Base for sharpening edge trailing and also will be great for grinding on the flat side of wheels. This will be like getting two products in one as I had to buy an MB100 and a separate Front vertical base from another maker

In October the MB102

Great explanation. Vadim (Woots) was a pioneer in sharpening a true master to all of us and a true friend from afar to me!!! R.I.P.

Great video - I subscribed. I have followed the guidance provided by Knife Grinders and been somewhat successful in sharpening serrated knives. I noticed you omitted the step of checking the angle in sharpening the flat side, but you got great results. I have used the Tormek Profiled Leather Wheel to remove the burr, and it has worked. Thanks -

Everytime I'm learning something new on the Tormek and start to hit a snag I am able to search and find a video showing your technique and it really helps shorten the learning curve. I'm so thankful for all the videos you've put out. I've been sharpening friends knives in bulk (for cheap) on the Tormek and I'm getting much quicker with putting out quality edges. Thanks again!

Hey Paul thanks for the great video, I received my front vertical base today and do appreciate all the informative videos you produce! My tormek would still be in the corner not being used I love all the tips and tricks you show us.

Love what you're doing with the Tormek, Paul.

Great video. Schleifjunkies also sells CBN rods in 6, 8, and 10 mm diameter and 400, 800, 1200 grit that can easily be used on Hapstone R1 and R2 jigs, and probably other fixed angle jigs too. Slower than the method you show, but can be very precise.

Hey Paul, TORMEK just came out with a new MB-102 jig that converts the front horizontal mounts to vertical, just like the jig you got from Schleifjunkies. The MB-102 also has a side mounted extension pivot that allows you to grind off the side of diamond wheels or the Tornado wheel from WoodTurners.

Mdf wheels are pretty popular diy solution. It seems to me it would be fairly easy to knock it down so there would be a 1/8 or so larger edge to it. I wonder how well that would hold up to honing inside serrations. Also wondering how a circle out of perhaps luan would do, or many sandwiching 1 or 2 pieces of slightly larger diameter cardboard between mdf would hold up. Just wondering out loud on diy solutions.

Aloha from Hawaii. I’m a beginner sharper and love your videos. Detailed and very informative.
I was wondering, when sharpening a serrated knife, will the serrated point lessen. That’s just from an experience of letting one of my friends sharpen my Benchmade half serrated blade EDC. Half of it was gone after he sharpened it even if I told him to not touch the serrated area.

You got that guy's name wrong. That was the late Dr. Vadim Kraichuk at Knifegrinders who sold the first front vertical base. I also tried to order the FVB from Knifegrinders and was also given a refund.

How are you not wiping out the points on the serrations like this? One of the key feature of the serrations is the protect the cutting edges with those points so it can be used on harder surfaces or just prolonging the life of the cutting edge between sharpenings.

Any chance you could give us grit grades for the paper wheel !

Hi, I've been learning from your videos. However, I would appreciate more close ups. Often ot is too difficult to see the details. Thanks. 🇨🇦

What is the reasoning for the nearly flat angle on the flat side vs a more traditional 17-20 deg?

Good video until you did the serrations on the paper wheel and the camera was behind you. I'd like to see what you actually did.
Thanks

I’m new to this but it seems this process would kind of smooth out the scallops to making them start to disappear. Am I completely wrong here?

Mb-102 not on website yet? Doesn’t come up.

so you're grinding on the straight side, not actually getting into the scallops. Eventually, the scallops will disappear. I was taught not to grind on the straight side.
