This sends a message that nobody will be spared from justice. Even a child that was “just following orders” is getting life. Gives the others something to think about.

More than likely he will be treated better as a prisoner of Ukraine than he would back in ruSSia.

The officer who gave him the command also needs to be put away, i can only imagine the horrors he's committed

A case of young men...very young...paying the price for the mistakes and aggressions of old men.

I would rather see the commander in charge behind bars...that's the true criminal I think...

Now let's put the officers and politicians who created this mess there as well.

An immature young fellow who let himself be misled into misfortune. The verdict is justified he has destroyed a life. The question is whether he will be able to make amends in the course of his imprisonment through community service or other things. Otherwise, a life unnecessarily wasted by old assholes...

3 months ago was a regular kid watching tick-tock, he pulled the trigger but Putin loaded the gun

Perhaps he's somewhat lucky. Eventually he can probably get parole, whereas many of his fellow soldiers are dead.

Forced to fight a war he most likely didn’t want any part of. Now he’s forever doomed. 😢

This is wrong. A young boy, he didn't even know what he was doing.. Where are the commanders?? What he did was obviously a crime but in those circumstances following orders, I doubt that most of us would act differently, especially a young kid like him. These war crimes shouldn't be decided and sentenced on an individual level, there are people in high ranks who are responsible. They should be found and executed straight away. To give a life sentence to a 21 year old won't make any difference. He should get punished but this is too much.

I feel kinda sorry for this kid.
Obviously what he did was wrong, and my condolences go to the victims wife and family, but he was ordered to do it.
I’ve seen experiments, most people will follow the orders of a perceived authority, even to the extreme.
We like to think we would do different, but the reality is it’s unlikely would.

I wonder what kind of punishment Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol will get for holding civilians hostage once the Russians decide to prosecute them for war crimes?
