My grandmother had a lovely blue dress on her second wedding day in the early 60s they where happily married 52 years before cancer took grandad. She had 2 kids before he adopted and raised them from ages 6 and 4, and my mom was born a few years later. 3 kids, 8 grandkids, 4 great grandkids before he died

I believe the newspaper would say " The bride wore a champagne lace tea length dress with matching accessories., ". As a youngster I always read the weddings announcements. What fun they were! One of those great things we've lost.

I am an Indian but had this same dress, in same color, probably same fabric as child and it was my favorite dress untill I wore it to it's last breath.
These dresses are called 'frock' in India

My mother married for the second time in the 50s. She wore a shot silk silvery toned buttoned dress similar to your aunts. The buttons were star shaped diamontes. I still have those in my button box. I am 72 yrs. You are right, white signified virginal.purity.
