You’re missing the parts where France had colonized “French Indochina” before WWII then lost control of it when they lost control of their own country during the war. After WWII all the French colonies were returned to it by the Allies (including at least one to whom they promised liberation for fighting on behalf of the French after their government sold out to the Nazis).

France was engaged in the war in Vietnam until 1954 when they became embroiled in a war with the Algerians who had been promised liberation in exchange for fighting with the French.

After the war France reneged on their deal and murdered tens of thousands of Algerian men, women and children. They rounded up truck loads of people (men, women, children) who had been celebrating peacefully and dumped them down a steep rocky ravine into a river where any who survived the fall were drowned.

France couldn’t even fight for their own country during WWII let alone fight wars of its making in two continents other than their own.

The French went on to pull out of Vietnam and pursue a bloody war in Algeria using torture, rape, napalm, etc. for 9 years. Only after JFK told DeGaulle that he should give freedom to the Algerians were they finally given their freedom (but continued to do everything they could to undermine the North African nation.
