My big brother was 18 when he joined the US navy in ‘74 and served on the Kitty Hawk. He was my role model. Sadly Covid took him in 2021. He was always proud to be a sailor. RIP brother.

My father served on a destroyer minesweeper at the end of WW2. A finer man I have never known. The older I became, the smarter and wiser he became. Passed a couple of years ago. Proud to be his son.

My GFs father was a navy man. Served in Vietnam Era (not in the actual war but was in the navy during the conflict) died on 5/31 after a long battle with Renal Failure.

Anchors Aweigh Joe! Sure you’re shipmates that have passed are happy to see ya again man.

I had a sister who was in the WAVES, a branch of the Navy, during World War II. She was stationed in San Francisco and helped coordinate acquiring and shipping supplies to help support the war in the South Pacific. I have a photo showing her in her dress uniform. Very impressive looking!

The Navy’s Hymn…Anchors Away gave me life, as I marched everywhere, everyday during my basic training in Great Mistakes, I meant Great Lakes, IL lol. I wasn’t prepared and was clueless about the Navy when I joined in "96" and I have zero regrets serving 22yrs…. Back then, it was something about marching up front as the Guide On / PFC, in my denim bell bottom dungarees with the flag…just keeping in step, humming this hymn with my head up high and chest out lol. Memories, bitter sweet….

Thank you all who continue to serve Our Countries Navy Combat Team with Honor, Courage, and Commitment. Fair winds and following seas to the Shipmates who fought the great fight.

“We have met the enemy, and they are ours…”

As an Army vet I have to admit, this is a catchy hymn. I listened to the marines and enjoyed theirs as well. I’ve had to listen to the army song so many times…

Nothing in this world hits like getting so drunk with the boys at the bricks you start singing Anchors Aweigh and sea shanty’s at 3am, and then the MA’s pull up 😂

So far my future I'm planning is going to highschool which is very very soon and joining NJROTC and then joining the navy. My grandpa and my dad were both in the navy and I wanna carry that on.

My uncle served aboard the USS Stembel in the Pacific Theatre of WWII and in the Sea of Japan during the Korean War. This song makes me think of him. R.I.P.
