I couldn't care less about how big or flashy the new content is. All I want is for the new stuff to interact with preexisting content, by overlapping features and creating a web that gives us freedom to create beyond the boundaries of "this block is a new color."

I mean - you’ve got a point, lots of people confuse armored paws with 1.21 and think 1.22is the pale garden!

I feel like the issue with what some criticize as "not enough content" isn't the size for me, but rather how much it interacts with the rest of the game.

Most newer updates don't interact at all with old content, and if they do it's just amethyst and copper. Instead they feel like a one time experience.

The sniffers could disappear from the game and nothing would happen. The bees disappear and you lose a ton of redstone potential.

Mojang seems to be trying to move back to the early days of dropping little things, like the Secret Friday updates. But the winter drop hits a weird middle ground of being too in depth for the 'little' update they're going for, but not polished enough to be exciting. I agree that we should be doing things in terms of major/minor, not 'drops' and 'updates' etc.

I honestly wish that the pale gardens had a fog effect to limit your visibility making the creaking even more frightening. It could even be like a potion effect you get either from the biome or from the creaking. I feel like it would really add to the atmosphere and make it even spookier.

The pale garden minor update should really make so WHITE tulips finally give you WHITE dye

I feel like they should change the term from game drops to something like "minor update" or something that ties them back to the major update, like "update addon" or "Extra Features", something that very clearly defines them as a small, extra addon to accompany a larger update rather than a standalone thing. Ill be honest, up until this video I thought this was the only thing coming in the next update and I was very upset about its scale, hearing this makes me feel a lot better and I hope mojang does something to make it more clear in the future for the average player

The only thing I want more from the pale garden is a red stone block crafted with the creaking heart that activates when it is being observed by a player.
EDIT: just had a moment of inspiration! A new cave biome like the lush cave called the “hollow cavern” a place littered with roots and creaking hearts to keep you on you watching your back with a higher abundance of recourses. And possibly some new stuff

my two big issues with the pale garden are 1) there is absolutely no reason to go there at night unless you particularly want to 'fight' the creaking. if you want the wood or the moss or even the creaking hearts, you can get them during the day with no threat. it feels like there needs to be an incentive to take the risk, like how the deep dark has good loot but wardens, trial chambers have keys and vaults but spawners etc. and 2) it does not interact with anything else in the game in any way, the biome spawns next to dark oak forests and looks similar, but other than that nothing in it provides any function outside of its own gimmick. it doesnt help that the creaking itself is rather underwhelming as it is incredibly easy to deal with unless you get attacked by lots of other things at once. just walking towards you when you arent looking and hitting you for minimal damage is such a waste of potential

One cool thing I would like to see added to the biome that would also add some more compatibility with the rest of the game is that the creaking hearts generate an area of fog around them. Not only would it be super spooky in the biome but you could then move this fog to your base for atmospheric vibes.

Kinda like a spore blossom and it’s particle area accept its fog.

Whenever I hear the phrase "game drop" I think of some free to play mmo microtransactions, which is probably not the association mojang is aiming for.

The frustrating thing about the "winter drop" isn't even that it's a small update - it's a small update without much that's different from what's already in the game. 1.15 is a great comparison - it added very little, but mechanics like beehives and honey blocks were unlike anything in the game before. This "pale garden" is just a desaturated roofed forest. The only new thing added in the whole drop is a mob that only exists (a) in this new biome and (b) at night, which most players skip to avoid phantoms. All the new blocks are just retextures of what we already have - wood, moss, and cave vines. If the biome had anything not discoverable elsewhere, it would be a different story. Hell, not even the creaking heart has not much new to it, aside from spawning all of one mob, at night only. If it had more unique features, such as scaring away certain mobs, preventing mob spawns, or speeding nearby crop/sapling growth, that would be one thing. But as it stands, this drop adds really nothing for existing players to want to discover, as virtually all of its features can essentially be found elsewhere.

Imo, they have said thus far that “major drops” (or updates) will be less frequent than normal drops. They have stated that drops will NOT be replacing larger updates. What this means (I think) is the smaller random features in updates (like the sniffer and its plant variants in 1.20, the glow squid in the cave update or the crafter in 1.21) will now be released separately in smaller drops, while the main features (for eg deep dark in 1.19, trial chambers in 1.21, nether biomes in 1.16 etc) will be released as normal updates. This is what I understood, and it would make sense they release the pale garden and the creaking separately to say, the end update (We can still hope!) because it wouldn’t fit the theme, per say.

when i first saw the creaking, i said that i hope we can "tame" them by crafting a heart that we can activate, and have it summon friendly ones that work basically like immortal golems that do less damage and are tethered to a block. imagine if they were a good/cured version, with living, green leaves or something, and for curing their heart they'll protect your house when the heart is placed in a dark oak tree. as it is now, i don't really see much use or player story potential for it beyond "i walked into a spooky forest"

The pale forest is a cool idea, I just wish they'd add more plants to it... and I'm still unsure what the goal is for the biome being added, since it doesn't really mesh with anything else

Honestly, I like the idea of the creaking inflicting the player with a Status effect called Insomnia which prevents the player from using a bed for 5 - 10 minutes. That way it would eventually disapate if you leave the forest and could also be cleared with Milk (like any other status effect).

As a server admin I find the idea of adding a whole new biome as part of a minor update (call it what you will) just annoying. I need to pre-generate the terrain and set a world border to reduce server lag so getting the new features will mean shutting down the server for a day while I download a backup of the world files to run through MCASelector, upload the trimmed files and re-run the terrain generation. I just went through all that a couple of months ago to get the trial chambers to generate.

That is exactly what I told to many people on the videos and the confusion is also with other youtuber they title their videos with "next update 1.22" but that version is not reveling nothing. Right now is exactly like you said, and we have the example just this year how the new wolf variants and the armadillo is coming on the 1.20.6 and no part of the 1.21

I think the pale garden just feels so undeveloped. It feels more like a recolored version of the dark oak forest. I would love if they would finally improved the ambience in the older biomes instead of adding new ones that just feel like a recolored version of old ones with the same lack of details

I think the main issue is that it’s been a year since the last Minecraft live so people were expecting something big (or even just not exceptionally small). Had this been the Minecraft live in 6 months I feel like the reception would’ve been a lot better
