In this tutorial we start looking at the first programming concept, variables. Variables are used to store data and can be called by using the variable name and the data that it holds will be outputted instead.

im an asp.net programmer and i just started learning php. i've always been told that php is harder than asp but till now...it seems easier. not having the trouble of defining variables and using them directly in a string without opening and closing quotation marks and adding the plus sign is kinda fun. btw...tnx for the tutorials mate.

In programming, quotations are associated with Strings.

x = 1 means that x is an integer,
x = 1.0 means that x is a float,
x = "1" means that x is a string (can't be used for calculations in this form)
x = "1.0" = "1"
