Ryan: Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the optronics uni-light led clearance and side marker light. So once you kind of grab the light and get it in your hand, you can tell that it's pretty well built. The housing is made from a plastic type material, and you can tell it's really solid. I really don't see us having to worry too much about this cracking or anything like that.
Wire's nice and long. So we have some length to work with. It's going to have a coating on it as well, to help keep it a little more protected, which is always nice. If you the flip, the light over and look in the back of it. There's going to be some sealer in there.
And so the light is going to be submersible. However, I do recommend if you do plan on putting it completely under water, just to turn the power off before you do so. Just to kind of be on the safe side there. But other than that, it seems like a pretty well-built light. Is going to come with the rubber grommet. So a nice little bonus there.
We're not going to have to worry about picking one up separately or trying to make do with the old one. So the very first thing I noticed when we put power to the light is how bright it's going to shine in comparison to its size. It's actually pretty impressive. If you stare at it for a second or two, it kind of starts to hurt your eyes a little bit. And so that's nice.
It's going to give you that peace of mind, knowing other motors are going to be able to see you as you're pulling your trailer down the road. And it's actually, the way it's designed, it's going to throw light out a 180 degrees. So you can see it from any way you look at it.And it's partly this bright because it uses two LED bulbs. These shine much brighter than the traditional style incandescent bulbs. They last a whole lot longer and they require less power. So you're actually able to run more lights or figure lights, whatever you may need. You'll free up a little bit of power using the LEDs. So much more reliable and in today's age, definitely the way to go. So what's really cool too, is we're able to get all that bright light from such a small light itself. So it's really compact. And it's going to give us a ton of different options as far as where or what we want to Mount this to. So obviously a great choice for trailers. It looks really clean. Don't take up that space, we found too, a lot of people actually put these on just about anything, really. Whether it comes to side-by-sides, four wheelers, mud trucks, regular pickup trucks. I mean, your options are pretty much endless where you can Mount these up to.So this is what the light is going to look like when it's not turned on. I kind of liked the orange, especially on trailers. Pretty traditional and standard. Really can't go wrong. But there's also some that are available that have a clear lens, which might work or look a little bit better on those UTVs or pickup trucks. So we have a couple of choices there, whichever style you prefer, you're going to be able to use. At the end of the day, a well-built light that's going to last you a long time and be very reliable. Now, as far as the installation goes, it's really straightforward. There's only two wires we need to worry about hooking up. So it shouldn't take you hardly any time at all. Speaking of which let's go ahead and do that together now.To begin our install, we're going to come over here to the corner of our trailer. And the first thing we're going to need to do is insert our grommet. So grommet's straight forward, that's just going to push in there. We get it down nice and flat. We're going to take our light, feeding the wires through and push it until it is fully seated down. Now we can focus on hooking up our existing trailer wiring to our light wiring. So what we're going to do is use some heat shrink pod connectors that will just slide over the bare end of the wire and get crimped down. And crimped down. Now here's our existing trailer wiring. We have quite a bit of extra length here. So I might just shorten them up a bit. I don't think we need that much wire. But the way this is going to work is the light is going to have a ground wire and a power line. The white wire to our light is going to be for the ground. So we'll get that hooked up to our existing ground. And the black wire, that's going to be for our power. So we'll get that plugged in. Crim
