Can you do an episode on Swedish and Norwegian words that you recognize as derived from the Greek language.

The word "λαϊκή / laiki «means "for the people» from the word «λαός / laos / people» = market for the people. If you go there after 2pm, the prices will be 40% lower.

Hello!

The best things one can buy in a farmer's market are the seasonal fruits and vegetables. The eggplants, the tomatoes, the peppers (just to name some of them we saw on the video) are not of this season; peppers normaly come in season arround May, tomatoes on June, etc. The out of season fruits and vegetables currently being sold in the markets, are produced in mostly greenhouses or they are being imported. This season are being produced vegetables like cabbage, beetroot, cauliflower, spinach, broccoli, lettuce, leek, radish, turnip, chard, a variety of leafy vegetables, etc. Soon, from March and on, in the markets you ll actually find an increasing by the month variety of vegetables and of leafy vegetables in particular (surely you know the general term "chorta"); Greeks love all these vegetables. Greek traditional cusine is totally based on vegetables.

A good advise would be to search what kinds of vegetables are being produced in Greece each season, and focus on mostly those.

Regards and thank you both for making this video.

It was a very nice experience to go through the Laiki hearing all the farmers yell out their products some in a funny manor with so much to chose from and the prices I found very inexpensive but of course as someone from the states its easy to see the difference but for many of the Greek people living under their current wages, not so much. A kilo of grapes was around 1.50 euro

In farmer's market you meet the individual merchant in person and it is harder for him/her to sell you bad quality vegetables. On the other hand, it is easier for producers to give lower quality stuff to super market, because there is not a personal contact and they do not feel that responsible for the end results. When someone has the opportunity, he should have farmer's market in his/her rotation. Have a nice weekend!

I used to go to laiki, with my mother, when i was a kid...and when we reached the "souvlaki area"...my god, the smell of souvlaki in the air, ahhhh!!You just couldnt resist !!🤤🤤🤤My mother would always buy me one, as a reward for helping her 😁 And a little advice: Avoid buying toilet paper from laiki at all costs, trust me!!😆 Have a nice Sunday🤗
