Service, or SRV, records are DNS records that advertise a service and how to connect to that service. You would use SRV records to announce a host of common services, such as SIP, to the Internet

A Simple Explanation:

An SRV Record tells a specific application what website - and probably more importantly - what port to use. Browsers don't use SRV records, as that would allow people to host their own websites on ports besides the standard port (80), and big internet companies wouldn't like this as it would mean less money (e.g. many ISPs block incoming traffic to port 80 since browsers use this port by default when connecting to websites), so SRV records aren't really helpful in web development (that is, until browsers decide to implement them).

SRV records ARE USEFUL for applications that are built to look them up (e.g. minecraft), but unless you're using one of those applications or building one yourself, SRV records are probably not useful to you.

Very network domain specific. Perhaps consider describing an SRV record to someone with no network domain knowledge. How is SRV helpful - to say, a secretary, or accountant, or warehouse worker? Surely they benefit from the implementation of SRV records in conjunction with services...
