The built in speakers are just monitors. Akai made several sets of boxed speakers of quite reasonable quality that clipped together to make a portable case with carry handle about 18 x 18 inches designed for use with the m8. Thus the m8 could be quite a portable party machine or the basis of a home sound system set up. I bought mine in the late mid 1960s from Parshotam Bros in Fiji.
