Captain Trips: The Legend of Psychedelic Missionary Al Hubbard

Al Hubbard is a psychedelic legend. When thinking of famous psychedelic advocates, Al Hubbard is not a name that comes to the mind of most people. He's not your Timothy Leary or Ram Dass who both were faces of the 1960's counterculture movement, people knew who he was during his time, but not many. Between 1951-1966, Al Hubbard used his massive LSD stash to introduce approximately 6,000 people to the substance. This video tells his story.

« His own contraception » 3:45 means his birth was prevented. When, in fact, Al is said to have witnessed his own CONCEPTION…where the egg was fertilized…resulting in pregnancy

My idea for a film.

John Goodman older Hubbard, and narrates the whole story.

Joe Keery lead role plays younger Hubbard.

Damien Chazelle directs.

3:37 Al Hubbard saw "his own contraception." Not even a dose of LSD will help untangle the logic of that one.

Glad you did a video on him. Not a lot of people in the psychedelic community know about him ✨

He must've had amazing discussion skills and high emotional intelligence! Pity he's not around.

You are so experienced. Can you do a video on what realizations you have come up with and good topics to think about when on a trip

We might be in the psychedelic renaissance right now but it is a quiet renaissance. I almost always am the first person people will do lsd with and I’m honored to do so but I think we need more people to talk about it in the main stream

'Even his own contraception' you mean 'conception' the literal opposite

Good video though, I thought I knew a lot about psychedelic pioneers, but I didn't know this!

I first read about this guy back in the 1990s and feel like he never gets the credit he deserves. Also, as a conservative psychedelic advocate like myself, this guy is more relatable than some of the other guys. I used to like Leary, but over the years lost respect for him. I still like the late Ram Dass though.

I thought he was Jack Hubbard, did he also use AL?

Hey bro, what exactly are these clips of people called that you use to basically illustrate your narrative?

It is interesting to think about how history might have evolved if there was no Leary or Alpert, and psychedelics had remained under the evangelical control of a right-winger like Hubbard. It may have been a blessing that Tim and Ram Dass prevailed even though it stymied further research by demonizing such a wonderful substance.
