Fun to see this four years later. I was a backer, and my Trinus (with the production heated bed and a few mods including bed level system) is still ticking away and doing nice prints. The Trinus 1.3 has just been released which includes many of my mods.

I bought it recently in a basic variation as my first printer. Can't say I'm very happy with the choice; main problem is the lack of the heated bed. And yes, I'm printing PLA, but it doesn't stick often, it's hell. After a month or two I'm thinking about selling it and buying a bigger more modern printer.

I am perfectly new to 3D printing. I am starting a STEM school. My background is mathematics not engineering so learning curve to 3D printing for me has a large initial slope. After nervous research and reviews I ordered the Monoprice 113860 Maker Select Entry Level Heated Build Plate 3D Printer YESTERDAY.

I was so impressed with your review of Trinus 3D printer I am pre-ordering it at this very hour. It appears the Trinus printer may not arrive before September but I am sold that this will be a beneficial investment for my students. As you said, the Trinus fits the bill as a great starter 3D printer.

I want to start working with 3D printing this summer so I will not cancel the Monoprice 113860 Maker just to get my hands dirty. I have subscribed to you channel and look forward to more of your insights on printing. I still feel overwhelmed by what I must overcome quickly in order to teach students who may know more than I do but I feel it is all worth the feelings of inadequacy.

Thanks for pushing through illness and getting this done, Angus!

I am telling you man, I don't know how you do it. You must spend heaps on lighting and cameras. This looks and sounds like something that would air on TV. Your production value is incredible for somebody who has only been doing youtube for a few years. Keep up the awesome work while putting all of us other youtubers to shame!!

Excellent review. Nice to see a kickstarter project that's willing to put a pre production model out there for someone unbiased to play with.

thanks for this. I backed the trinus, and it'll be my very first 3D printer. I'm super excited to see the final product.

You forgot to mention, that the screws have bearings on their ends ( I mean the other ends than the ends where the Motors attach ), unlike what you´ve noticed earlier on the companys photos, where they had no bearings on these photos...

Angus, your willingness to dig into kickstarters is awesome. You probably save a lot of people a lot of money on the OLO, and now you're saving people on the Trinus. Well played.

Nice piece of kit especially for a pre-production unit and to have only one real problem is quiet amazing really I agree with you in the fact it could be used in a number of configurations is also a big plus. I have had a look at the up mini and don't like all the plastic but that is just me and I understand it's a price thing but still don't go for it.
I also think that with further development the build volume could be expanded and if they go to higher quality ball screws you be able to get the speed up but that would add to the cost of course.
I think that what they have done is great I have heard so many bad things about kick starter projects it is good to see these guy's are really dedicated to making it a success and not just trying to get a shit load of money for nothing and then disappearing never to be heard from again.

So big thumbs up to the Trinus team and I wish them great success in the future. And to you Angus great video as always.

to solve the problem with z and y endstops modify gcode: instead of home all axis use home x then move x to 10 then home y and move y to 10 and after that z will home itself without problems

Thanks Makers Muse for the review. Now I'm confident that my pledge was a good idea :)

Good Review, good Printer. I cannot wait to get the hands on my own one!

this is an incredibly smart built. i wondered when someone was going to do a true linear rail build with lead screws...which makes it much more rigid build than most 3d printer builds...the only thing that bothers me is the small print bed. THank you for an awesome review

Very nice review. I hope they implement a dual fan solution into the extruder. The kit definitely leans towards PLA printing, and having a dedicated cooling fan for just the print bed would be an easy add to improve print quality.

Toss some more finished prints our way once you're back and better!

A couple of quick notes:
* Pango does run under WINE in Linux, though, it's pretty poor compared to any of the FOSS slicers out there.
* The support from Kodama is woeful at best.
Best of all:
* Marlin runs on it if you're willing to take the top panel off and burn the Arduino bootloader via ICSP. Interestingly, the Paladin Firmware can still run atop the Arduino bootloader. There's a bloke called Sam Buls who's got a GitHub repo called "MarlinOnTrinus" and has a YouTube video on it. I'm in the process of tweaking my own config based on his adding heated bed support.

As a first printer, it's probably not bad out of the box (it's mine), but I'm finding myself outgrowing it, and feel that Kodama would do well to throw out their support department and just contribute to one of the open source firmwares and let the larger community support itself.

I backed a Deluxe+ 5 mins before you released this video, after I watched it I can't wait to get my hands on one. Thanks for the great video. They claim to print PC at 255c wow this printer can do anything mmm layer adhesion I think not.

Thanks Angus thanks to your review, I now pledged for a Trinus 3D printer.

Thank you for the great review. Now I can keep my pledge without the fear of disappointment later.

I can certainly agree on the suggestion to make the cooling for PLA a bit better. Ironically, I asked them about this possible problem over a day ago in the comments section and wondered, if a dual fan shroud solution would be better, but was seemingly ignored.

It could also have been my question if the possible inclusion of BackerKit might lead to delays in their game plan. Maybe those were both questions that can't be positively answered yet.

awesome, we would love to test and review on as well, can't hardly wait.

Biggest thing I like is that it's modular. Buy what what you need when you need it and save money by building it yourself, much like a pc
