How to fold your quilting fabric

Folding your quilting and sewing fabric all the same size will help you see what you have and will help you store it neatly. One long ruler will keep your fabric folding neat, easy and handy. Looks great too.

Thank you Laura! I wish I was following you sooner. I’ve been going through my fabric stash and just love how uniform the fabric yardage is after folding. I now can access my fabric easily. I don’t have the luxury of shelves for storage but I have found clear, straight sided, lock lidded totes that I put my folded stacks of fabric in. I place the tote on its long side and slide my fabric stacks in one right next to each other folded end up for a snug fit. When tote is set upright each fabric is clearly seen. The totes were purchased from Walmart. Sterilite 24 1/2” long x 15 1/8” wide x 11 3/4” high. Thank you so much for this handy tip.

This is a great video, Thank you. I was sure there was an easier way to organize my stash. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees! I couldn't see the sense of investing in comic book backs to organize it. This is a simple and universal method of folding all fabric and the ruler width is to what works for you. 🙂

I've been doing it this way for years. Learned the method from some quilting friends.    Makes storing your fabrics so much neater. And, if you need to get a piece from the bottom of the pile, slide the ruler between It and the one above, and you can easily pull out the one you need.

YES again you taught this old dog a new trick and I love it. I don't have backing material per se, but I tend to buy 10 yd pieces that I love. Using this method I can sort in colors, in current or future project uses and not have the piles falling over. With 5 decades and over 200 yards from the boxes of pieces to the 10 yd whole pieces I am going to organize with gusto.   heading in wish me luck!

I search 'how to fold fabric' and pulled up 4 different video. Yours was the second one i watched and i didn't bother to watch the others. Thank you for sharing, I love it, just what i was looking for....and so simple!

What a great idea and the best part about it is that it's simple, there is nothing more to buy, and don't have to worry about acid free etc.. I'm definitely going to try it.
