I was 21 and in downtown Toronto with a few friends. We were walking down the street and saw a crowd of people in front of a window of TVs all playing the news. People were crying. A homeless woman told me Diana had died in a car accident. We cried together - I tried to buy her dinner but she wouldn't let me and opted for a tube of hand cream and a hug. I'll never forget that. The fact that a woman who was struggling so terribly was still devastated that Princess Diana had died. The power of her presence in the world was staggering.

I remember watching itvs announcement of her passing when I was 4 years old. It was really a devastating moment. My dad took me to a hillside where I was able to throw flowers amongst other mourners whilst her hearse drove by. I remember him commenting on how it was such a shame to even die that young. He was the same age as her and sadly passed away himself a year later.

My own mother had succumbed to ovarian cancer, 2 days prior to Princess Diana's untimely departure... I was totally crushed. Absolutely devastated.

I was only 11 years old, but I remember my mother (a Filipino housewife of a farmer in rural South Australia) was very saddened when hearing the news. This goes to show the impact Princess Diana had, that a lady from such a demographic and location could still be touched by Diana's passing. It really speaks volumes of the influence of Diana and the legacy of her kind nature.

I was returning home from a wedding when the news broke. I was 20. I slide down the wall and listened to the news in sheer horror and disbelief. It's still haunting to this day. That woman was such a lovely creature and powerful force. The world shifted that day😔🕊

I remember sitting at home late in the evening when the news came on about Diana's accident. I was so upset and stayed up several hours watching the different news reports, people were unclear about what her condition was, and I finally went to bed when she had arrived at the hospital. The next morning I woke up and went to get the morning paper in my driveway. I looked down at it, and I could see the headline that Diana had died. I broke down sobbing right there in the middle of the driveway. The day of her funeral, I stayed all day in the bedroom watching her funeral and sobbing. I've never broken down over someone I've never met, until Diana. Her death tore me up completely.

I was 8, I lived in Peru, and I cried, I was so sad and so was my mom. That’s how much impact she had all over the world.

I was 12 years old and had just lost my grandfather in a car accident a month prior when this happened. Candle in the Wind, the version for Diana always take me back to that sad time. I never think of her loss without thinking of my sweet grandfather too.

I was 10 years old. I'm from South Africa. My mother cried when she heard the news. Princess Diana was the same age as my mum. Still a huge loss

I was at my girlfriend's house when the news reported it here in the States. She was pretty upset but one of my best friends was devastated. She's captivated by the royal family. My wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, and I just arranged for my lifelong friend to get an original video of the Queen's coronation.
