I switched this year to HLS on YouTube, over RTMP. As a live sports event streamer, I found that RTMP suffers from artefacts on water, trees and backgrounds. HLS pretty-much eradicates this. Latency is a bit longer on HLS, but that's not too critical for my use.

Good video. We are developing a HLS solution with multiple subtitle and audio language translation. Something we cannot do with RTMP. Also, the captioning in RTMP only supports latin characters and so Asian languages are not supported by the old 608 protocol.

hello i am curious when i use hls to stream hdr on YT it always loses frames jumping from top CBR number to 0 always fluctuating? Any insight as to why TY! i can run on rtmps 50k bitrate all day np 0 dropped frames but on hls i cant even get 15k Br to run without this efffect!

Can you use SRT to stream to Youtube? I'd kill to test that if it's possible. I'd kill even if it was a 3rd party service where I could stream SRT to Twitch and/or Youtube!

HLS doesn't play well on my tv when I stream there. Sound crackles often and occasionally loud annoying sounds.
