A Geothermal Greenhouse

A GAHT® system allows our greenhouses to provide their own heating and cooling using the energy of the sun, and the soil underground. The result is a renewable climate control system that both heats and cools the greenhouse at a fraction of the cost of traditional HVAC.

The GAHT® system works by storing thermal energy in the soil underground. during the day greenhouses accumulate a lot of heat standard greenhouses have to exhaust all this heat outside essentially wasting it

the GAHT® system uses a fan to draw this excess heat underground where it is stored in the soil. When the greenhouse requires cooling thermostats turn on a fan which moves hot air from the top of the greenhouse through pipes buried underground where the soil absorbs the thermal energy from the air

the air is then exhausted back into the greenhouse cooler and slightly drier. In other words, the GAHT® system is cooling the air by actively heating the soil

The perimeter foundation surrounding the GAHT® system is highly insulated meaning that we are able to increase the temperature of the soil in the summer/fall and hold that heat longer than if the foundation was not insulated.

when the greenhouse needs heating at night or over the winter the fan, working in the same direction, now draws cool air from the greenhouse through the warm soil we have created. this warmer air is exhausted back into the greenhouse heating the greenhouse

this simple system requires nothing more than some piping and fans and the soil under the greenhouse it's why we call our greenhouses self-heating because the source of the heat is provided by the greenhouse itself which collects all the thermal energy that is stored in the soil it's also what allows our greenhouses to grow things like bananas and grapefruit year-round even in climates like this
