The first great war in Norse Mythology was between the Aesir Gods of Asgård and the Vanir Gods of Vanheim. The Vanir witch Gullveig had sneaked into the court in Asgård and spread malice, and as the Aesirs tried to burn her, they failed, which led to the war. Peace was settled by the exchange of hostages, where the Vanir gods Njord and his children Freya and Freyr were sent to Asgård, and the wise Æsir Gods Mímir and Höner were sent to Vanaheim. From the Aesir Vanir War, a peace symbol in the form of a tub of saliva created the man Kvasir, who was later killed by two dwarves. From his blood, the mythological drink Mead of Poetry.
