My father was born in Warsaw and as a child immigrated to the US right before the war. All my life I’ve seen pictures and wondered if any were my relatives murdered by the nazis. My heart always breaks.

Thanks so much for covering this. I'm Polish and it saddenst me how surface level is peoples perception of holocaust and war in Poland. The truth is Warsaw was huge and thriving, the buildings were beautiful and so many businesses sparkled to exist after WW1, yet it all became a literal battlefield. not some outside fields and forests, an actual city was the battlefield

I'm a Polish person living in UK, since 2010.
I've got many friends who never heard about WW2 properly..
I come from town of Lublin, beautiful place with grim past as fiew kilometres from town center there is "Majdanek" death camp.
I wondered if you could make material about it, if you try to check it out you'll see a disc shape monument which covers the ash of people burned in crematorium. We also had a ghetto..in which I was growing up in late 90's& early 00's.

Just finished watching this upload and I'll *NEVER* be able to understand persecution by religion, you could be born in Germany, from a German family, with German ancestry but outcast, tortured, worked to death and murdered because of religious affiliation. I know history is full of this, even as a Pagan myself, I am British/Egyptian before I am Pagan. I guess killing your fellow countryman, or even fellow human is easier once you call them 'lice and 'rats' smh... These stories *always* make my eyes fill up and a lump in my throat

Another part of the story of Warsaw is that after the Jewish uprising and deportation to Treblinka the Germans then turned their sights on the Polish residents. The Nazi policy toward the slavs was just a little less murderous then they were toward the Jews only because they were allowed to live a little longer and weren't forced into an over crowed ghetto.

As the Polish residents were also being rounded up they also reacted in an uprising in 1944. The German response was in some ways even more brutal as the whole city was bombed into oblivion. Only a dozen of the original buildings remain today in the totally rebuilt Warsaw. There are various memorials around the city commemorating the genocidal catastrophe.
