Gentleman's Gazette

00:00 Introduction

Sneakers are not a typical Gentleman’s Gazette staple, but instead of dismissing them outright, we wanted to take another look because of the wild popularity that sneakers from the brand have been generating.

You wouldn’t expect to see sneakers on Raphael or Preston, but Kyle happens to be a big fan of them for certain outfits. Those that have a sleek and modern look from the popular menswear brand Lanvin.

01:17 Lanvin: The French Couture House

The company was first sold in 1990 and was run by a family member until 1996. The company changed hands and creative directors many times over the next 30 years, and a Shanghai-based conglomerate Fosun International currently holds the majority stake.

Similar to many other high-end fashion houses, Lanvin focuses on seasonal, trend-driven collections. For example, for men, they offer ready-to-wear evening pants with a satin waistband. This is paired with a long sleeve t-shirt and red and gold trainers. It doesn’t feature a gallon stripe. They also don’t offer a matching jacket.

02:52 The Lanvin DBB1 Sneakers

The overall look is mature and understated for a sneaker; no loud branding colors or details. It comes in a range of muted colors, mostly white, black, and shades of gray, and also the occasional earth tones like olive green or shade of brown.

The toe cap of the shoe is usually in contrast to the rest of the upper, most typically as a tone on tone contrast and a different finish; for example, such as suede, calfskin leather, patent leather, or even a croc-embossed leather.

04:00 For Its High Price Point: Is It Worth It?

You’re still paying substantially for the brand and for the ability to have #Lanvin sneakers on your Instagram page. The look is mature and understated, so for men who want to stay on the dressy end of the spectrum, this is a great option, if you’re willing to pay the price.

07:08 Our Verdict

If you really like this look, there are many other options out there that are almost identical for a quarter of the price, and frankly, a good loafer or driving moc will make you look much more put together.

Genuinely love the ''are they worth it'' series! Most of all the things. Y'all should review Zegna suits!

Kyle continues to be a great addition to the channel and brings a more contemporary vibe to the classic menswear theme that Raphael has fostered so well

Raphael at 6:50 is worth rewatching the video for. Awesome.

My burgundy lanvin cap toe is probably one of the most versatile sneakers that I own.

I remember when this sneaker came out around 2010, the patent leather was a crazy hype. Back then you couldnt rock sneakers with a suit, but you could rock a suit with some Lanvins. A lot of celebrity's were wearing them. The high tops were something else man, they used different materials in a very creative way. I had the lows, mid and highs. 2010 - 2014 was the all time high for those kind of Lanvin sneakers. I still own a decent amount of them. Nowadays it is a sneaker with statue / reputation, people who know nothing about it will recognize the quality and the proper propotions of the design. Im from The Netherlands and their creative director was Lucas Ossendrijver, he created that perfect sneaker. But they were popular all over the world

Tom Ford suits or the famous velvet jackets next would be the dream. However, the price tag might be way too high

Please Gentlemen's gazzete I am eagerly waiting for a cane tutorial and this video was outstanding!
I would also like to say that after watching one of the pen series I fell in love with the Montblanc pens and currently have 5 of them. All thanks to Gentleman's gazzete.

I highly advice taking a look at the brand Artisan Lab if you are interested in this kind of sneaker, you will get roughly the same quality for a much smaller price.

Bought a pair of Allen Edmonds Canal Court sneakers with brown suede uppers on sale last year. They work well in setting where dress shoes are too much, but you still want to look sharp. Think garden party or casual meet up.

I really dig the dressier sneaker. Sleek, clean design. Nothing obnoxious. What are some other good brands? What does GG think about Thursday footwear?

Who else loves Kyle? He actually wears things that normal modern men would wear, with all do respect to Ralph and Preston.

Thank you ! I bought my first pair of Lanvin, but they are from their clay sneakers collection, so you would probably gasp. 🤣 I absolutely love this channel and all of you gentleman! You always make me happy and I love all of your informative videos! I’m happy one of you wears sneakers and I think if you don’t, that’s admirable too. Thank you!

I think I'll just stick with converse for my trainers. I find the combination of converse and casualish suits as they fit my aesthetic much better

I bought mine for 520, they can be the most comfortable shoe i have worn. My dad tought they were nice so he bought himself two pairs, one green and one navy blue. I have the black captoe sneakers that shine at the toebox.

Loving this series! Appreciate the leather sneakers review, a pair in a muted shade has been on my long-term search list as I appreciate the comfort in long-haul flights.
