Bloodborne: The Old Hunters is too hard for me (and that's ok)

Johnny bought Bloodborne The Old Hunters DLC but, with his character still a puny level 71, he's got no chance of completing it. Oddly, he's just fine with that. Here, let him explain.

From Soft's game is not about leveling up your character, but about playing better. Leveling up helps, but to really feel a difference you need to level up quite a bit. I started the DLC at lvl 60, and getting rekt, but i've watched people playing at level 120, getting rekt just the same. It's all about skills, really.

Misinformation. You don't even need to kill the Cleric Beast to level up. If you enter his area you will gain 1 insight. And even if you die to him you can still level up if you have enough blood echoes, because insight doesnt go down when you die. Or you can ignore all that and find a Madman's Knowledge, one of them is in the sewers. That item grants you 1 insight when consumed.

Just as long as you remember to get back to the DLC before you finish the main game, Old Hunters in NG+ is brutal.

I don't know if you're interested in any character building advice - but in the video, Sex Cop (LOL!) has "high" Skill stat but you're using Ludwig's Holy Blade. LHB is one of the best weapons in the game, but it scales best with the Strength stat until higher upgrade tiers. It really comes into its own in "Quality" (even skill/strength focus builds), so you are missing out on some damage by using that instead of the Threaded Cane or another Skill-scaling weapon (depending on upgrades). I would also get your main weapon up to +9 if you haven't already, since the health pools are quite high for Old Hunters enemies.

The DLC is actually designed around characters who are ~LVL 65, so you're not particularly underleveled (though about 10 of the points you put in Endurance would've been MUCH better spent in Vitality). Equip your character more appropriately for your build and up-skill yourself a bit, and I imagine you'll find the difficulty becomes much more reasonable. Still more challenging than most of the base game, mind you, but not so insanely difficult as it might first appear.

It's been years since he uploaded this. I wonder if he beat it or gave up.

I beat the whole base game with the saw spear. It’s great.

0:43 How are you level 71 with only 28 Vitality?? That's your problem dude, from the very beginning you should be focusing on leveling your vit and strength if your a new player. Endurance is good to have, but not dying is better. I would have left endurance around 20 and put the other 10 points in to vitality. Regardless, great video dude! Also, the ONLY starting weapon people should use is the Axe, it is just so much more O.P than the other 2. In fact it is so good that I used it up til the Blood starved beast and even after that.

I should’ve played the DLC before fighting the final boss. Now the already harder Old Hunters DLC is even more brutal in NG+ 🤦‍♂️

Try to be at least 75+ to do anything in Old Hunters. Much easier.

Just FYI you can level up your character before killing the Cleric Beast. All you need is a point of insight from a Madman's Knowledge.

I am level 100, on my new character (didn't want to try the DLC on previous character on NG+) and boy is the DLC hard. I've spent basically 8 hours on the first part of the DLC finally defeating 1rst boss. By the time you manage to beat 1rst boss, you'll know all his moves by heart. I died like 20 to 30 times on him.

Yup, you nailed this and I'm only out of my BB 'rhythm' by about 3 weeks. The difficulty in the new areas is severely ramped up, but hey, time to 'get good.'

Bloodborne was the first Souls game I ever played. Now I love the series (except for DS2). My first few hours were laughable, but I loved the world, the combat, and the monsters so much that I kept coming back. I'm no expert, but on my latest playthrough, I beat a lot of the bosses first try in the main game. Even in the DLC, I beat the easier bosses first try (Maria and Failures). Maria wrecked me last playthrough, but I got her fight down after a lot of practice. But for the life of me, I've yet to beat Laurence, or the Orphan. For me, Gehrmen and the Moon Presence pale in comparison. It got to the point where I was just trying to beat them so the DLC would be over. So, I gave up completing the DLC and moved on to DS3. The thing to remember is, it's just a game. A fun, rewarding one, but if your frustration outweighs your fun, fuck it. Come back later and give it another go. Or don't. There's no law that says you've got to be as good as some of these "git gud" Youtube goons. I'm certainly not and I've had a blast the with the Souls games, even though I can't finish The Old Hunters, I've yet to beat The Nameless King in DS3, and I've been stuck in The Tower of Latria in Demons Souls forever. Just have fun. I appreciate the video. The DLC has a huge difficulty spike and it's nice to know I'm not the only one who struggled with it. P.S. I didn't realize I could level up before killing the Cleric Beast until maybe my third playthrough so don't feel bad. Now I take my carried over Blood Echoes and Hunters Mark it out of there as soon as the fight starts. Cheap, but who cares?

Awww, I really like this video  and how understanding you are about Bloodborne`s difficulty.

Today I made it to Ludwig finally on my lvl 67 hunter and it feels kinda awesome that I can say my skill got me there and that is one of the things I love about bloodborne :)

I know I'm 5 years late to the vid, but if your replaying bloodborne again, there is "Madman Knowledge" in the sewers of the first area. Use that and you can level up before the first boss.

Completed the main story, started new game plus, tried the DLC, now officially given up. I'm level 138 but the game is just so punishing it's given me very little satisfaction. Even on completing the game, rather than oh that was challenging! I just felt, what a frustration...

I doubt I'm the only one to mention this, but I feel it will help you and maybe others on subsequent play through's. You DONT need to beat or even get to the first boss in order to level up, you just need 1 insight...there are 2 available before the cleric beast, one in the sewers near where you get the saw spear, the other is near a group of crows just before the ladder to the little girl NPC. As soon as you consume 1 insight you have access to the doll. My starting goals w every new play is to get 1 insight so I can level my vitality a bit as well as get my weapon to +1 or +2. Hope this helped.
