Internationally acclaimed Norwegian-born singer, Sissel, performed the Swedish folk melody "O store gud" ("How Great Thou Art"), arranged by Håkon Iversen, during the 2019 Pioneer Day Concert with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.

Lyrics:
O store Gud, när jag den värld beskådar,
Som du har skapat med ditt all maktsord,
Hur där din visdom väver livets trådar,
Och alla väsen mättas vid ditt bord:

Då brister Själen ut i lovsångs ljud:
O stora Gud, O stora Gud!
Då brister själen ut i lovsångs ljud:
O store Gud, o store Gud!

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed;

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee:
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee:
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

Audiences still have not forgotten Sissel’s stunning performances at the Choir and Orchestra’s 2006 Christmas concerts and still regard her as one of the favorite guests of the Choir. The concert was shown in 2007 on PBS stations to 4 million viewers around the country. The Christmas CD, Spirit of the Season, was #1 on Billboard’s Classical chart for nine weeks and was nominated for two Grammy® awards.

It's very precious to me, being a Swede, that she is first singing in Swedish! This song was originally written in Swedish by pastor Carl Boberg in the small town where I grew up!

Wheb Notre Dame in Paris was in flames we began to see all we had lost when we abandoned the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

my mother loved Sissel and this wonderful song....she died when she 96 years old and almost every day she would sing this song with a very weak voice but a very strong soul....we sang this song in her funeral....hearing this song brings all these memories back and a lot of tears too

This was my Uncle Carl's favorite hymn. I played it on my phone for him as he was dying of COVID last night.

A young lady sang this song at my missionary farewell when I was leaving for a mission in Sweden. I did not know that the song was written by a Swedish composer. I am glad that she sang the first verse in Swedish. Då brister själen ut i lovsångsljud: O store Gud! O store Gud!

"How great thou art" is a version of this, which is the Swedish original with words by Swedish poet and reverend Carl Boberg. Only many years later and after many translations into other languages, did the English one come to us as we know it today.

Saw this concert in person, hard to believe it was live and not a recording. Truly one of the best Pioneer concerts of all time.
