How Elsa And Anna’s Parents’ Death Was NOT An Accident | Disney's Frozen

In Frozen 2, Anna and Elsa finally learned what happened to their parents' ship when it disappeared when they were younger, but it turns out that they might not have learned the whole story. According to a fan theory, King Agnarr and Queen Iduna’s ship was destroyed in the Dark Sea on purpose instead of the random happenstance that Disney made it seem like. And to make matters worse, if this theory ends up being true then that would mean that the events which caused their ship to go down and ultimately kill them, were set in motion long before Elsa was even born.

I think Nok is the guardian of Athohallan so it must just have tried to protect Athohallan from anyone who was seeking it out.

I don’t think it was Nokk that killed the king and queen. I think the rough seas are part of the spell/curse that created the veil. Ahtohallan is beyond the veil, and they tried to go around it, not realizing it’s more than just a cloud over the land.

What’s interesting is the shipwreck is found on dry land, not in the water. From a purely physical standpoint, that would mean there was either a massive flood that flooded the ship and then receded or the wreck didn’t sink but floated to shore without its occupants. Speaking of which, there is no trace of any victims, either the royal couple or their crew. What happened to the bodies? Had they escaped the ship and succumbed to the cold water, Titanic style? Were their bodies pulled from the boat by a water spirit? Did someone find the bodies and give them a proper send off? Were they scavenged by wild animals?

Since Elsa’s parents were the ones that decided to lock her up and not teach her to control her powers, if the second theory it’s true, then their death would be their own fault, not Elsa’s.

King Runeard was the reason for Agnarr and Iduna's death. Elsa was created to heal the imbalance created by Runeard's treachery, seeing as her mother Iduna was of Northuldra (a people that were as much a part of the magic of the Enchanted Forest as they were humans). I doubt the Noxx targeted Agnarr and Iduna personally, more the tempest of imbalance than intentional malice. After all Ahtohallan was calling Elsa to it when the Noxx attacked her. Ahtohallan had lost control of the other spirits, because of Runeard's betrayal of the Northuldra and the war waged in the Enchanted Forest, which affected (damaged) the spirits and garnered their anger and the curse that fell over the Enchanted Forest.

After everyone had been driven out of Arundel, Anna asked what was going on, and Elsa replied "I woke the Magical Spirits of the Enchanted Forest." I think the screen writers put that exchange in to establish that the Spirits, including the Nokk, were dormant at the time of Agnarr's and Idunna's voyage. If so, then the question of whether or not the Nokk was responsible for their deaths has already been answered.

I was thinking that too for a long time. Maybe they should address this in Frozen 3.

I think that Nok is a kelpie and his job is to protect all the secrets of the past. So when King Angar and Queen Iduna set into the dark sea, Nok noticed them and since Nok is a kelpie and the guardian of Atahallan, he got angry. So, he created a massive storm, ambushed the passengers of the ship so that way there was no chance of survival. But Nok was acting on instinct, not because he’s a kelpie, because he’s an equine. Equine animals especially stallions (male horse that can have babies) are very territorial over their mares (female horse, ) their herds, their foals (baby horse) and their land. And Nok is a stallion and even bachelor stallions (stallions without a herd and a mate) are territorial. When looking for mares, they will occasionally stop some place and claim it their own, and if another horse gets too close, the stallion will defend its territory. So Nok was defending his territory. And like wild animals, they can be domesticated and Elsa calmed him down and tamed him. Elsa also gained Nok’s trust and respect because he realized, not all humans are bad. He also knew she was special. He’s never seen a human with powers before, especially water related cause ice and snow is water, it’s just frozen. So he related to her in a way because they both have something to do with water. And since Elsa was special and respectful, he gave her access to Atahallan. That’s my theory of why King Agnar and Queen Iduna were killed also, why Nok let Elsa into Atahallan.

It's not an impossible theory, but if it's true, it means Elsa became Friend with the one who killed her parents. And it would bé very dark

1 Disney's bread and butter has always been family-friendly movies. I very much doubt that they would want something like the death of Elsa and Anna's parents hanging over their relationship with the magical spirits with whom they had a close relationship. They certainly would not want Elsa herself to have been responsible.
2 Storms at sea happen all the time and ones big enough to sink Agnarr's and Idunna's ship, which would be considered small, under powered and poorly built by today's standards, are not unusual. In the days before radar and weather satellites, it would have been easy for such a vessel to be caught by surprise.
3 Agnarr's and Idunna's trip to Attahalla was hastily planned. Even the captain who, as an experienced sea man, might have known that the region they were heading into was stormy that time of year and could have advised them to wait a few months, had not been told where they were going until they had left Arundel.
4 No one was thinking that there would be a second movie when they were making Frozen. The Enchanted Forest and angry magical spirits were an afterthought.

I feel supremely confident that Agnarr's and Idunna's deaths were the result of nothing more than the need to advance the plot.

But Nok also killed Iduna, who's done nothing wrong

i think king agnars dad is to blame for angering the spirits

I think the reason the nock let elsa ride him was because she used her powers, and the nock realized that she was a spirit and let her through.

I think it is a mix they should have been better parents to Elsa, but also the water spirit was just doing what he knew to do to protect his area.

That is true they did die because of the water spirit Nok

There are quite a few people saying "how could a horse destroy a ship?" 😂 nokk is the water spirit and the horse is just the water spirit in it's physical form. Nokk controls the water, he can manipulate it to do whatever he wants. He created the giant waves that destroyed the ship.

Yeah maybe nok is the guardian of the athohallan but he is also the guardian of the dark sea but when Elsa was born and unlocked her true self to the athohallan she was declared the new guardian of athohallan they say nok is the most aggressive and most powerful spirit but no it was Elsa and her powers from athohallan because anyone who goes deeper into the athohallan will freeze to death even if it was Elsa the spirit of ice and athohallan

I always thought that the water horse killed Anna and Elsa's parents. It surprises me to learn this is a theory now.

I really like these theories, I think they each sound very interesting.

Of course not. Blackbeard killed them according to OUAT which is cannon according to Disney because they own OUAT. What’s interesting is the enchanted forest is the SAME PLACE in both Frozen 2 and OUAT so Elsa had to have traveled to storybrooke sometime between the time of the wedding and before the events of frozen 2 took place.
