Looking at Ancient astronomy alligned with the Zodiac calendar, we are in the age of Aquarius. There is a relationship with Fish and Water within this age, you see Jesus feeding 5000 people with 2 fish or Peter being a fisherman, various references to fish within the writings. No the fish symbol was used to show the direction to Christians where they were meeting during the time Christians were being killed for being in God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It was a pathway symbol so they could meet and keep the covenant with our one and only Creator.
