Chiesa discusses Liverpool number, father's advice #football #liverpoolplayer #federicochiesa
New Liverpool recruit Federico Chiesa has revealed why he chose to wear the number 14 jersey, following Jordan Henderson. Chiesa opted for this number after his £10 million transfer from Juventus, which could increase to £12.5 million with add-ons, and after signing a four-year deal with Liverpool.
The number 14 jersey has been available since Henderson's departure last summer, who left for Saudi Arabia before joining Ajax in January. Chiesa is now the latest player to wear this jersey, which has also been worn by Liverpool greats such as Jan Molby and Xabi Alonso.
When asked about the importance of the number, Chiesa explained, "It’s significant for me as it’s the number I’ve worn for the national team. It was an obvious choice because Liverpool sent me a video highlighting my career, including goals for Fiorentina and Juventus, and it ended with me wearing a number 14 shirt. It felt like it was meant to be, so I decided to go with number 14."
Chiesa, who might be available for Liverpool's Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, will have to wait until September 14 and the game against Nottingham Forest for his potential debut at Anfield.
Chiesa’s father, Enrico, scored at Anfield during the 1996 European Championships while playing for Italy, though they were eliminated in the group stage after a 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic.
