This is so hard to do 😭😭
It took me almost a week and only got this much.
But I am surprised how much flexibility Godot UI had.
I wouldn't even dream of making stuff like this in Unity.

I still don't know how the selection effect(the red and blue thing) works.

(When opening Menu for the first time, it will have a really long load time. might be able to fix this if I load it at the start of the scene. because there are some problem with the shader compilation speed for Godot on web I think)

Edit: idk what I was on when I commented this. To the 990 people who decided to like this: unity's renderer is objectively more capable than godot's. I hate unity in general because it's a pain to work with and I really enjoy using godot because of its simplicity, but my god its renderer isn't finished yet.

If this took a week to you, we can guess it's not much easier even for a veteran artist and or programmer. I'm sure they had a whole team to do this stuff on the original game, but my point is we can really appreciate all the work that goes into these seemingly unimportant details.

This looks awesome!

I've noticed that in Persona 5 the selection effect with red and blue rectangles works like this: the text that's selected changes to red fill, the area where rectangles overlap inside the text is white, their overlap outside the text is black. Non selected options have white text that's a couple of layers behind the outline and rectangles of the selected text can go over the fill of the non selected ones.

Your UI closing animation is better in my opinion but it should be a bit faster.
Menu open animations need to be faster too, the 3D model stays there for too long.

I mean of course there's differences to the actual game's UI, but for doing it all yourself its really dang good!
