Derren Brown's Photo Act (from his show Enigma) revealed.
This is my explanation. I'm not saying it's 100% correct, but I'm probably pretty close to the truth ;-) Enjoy!

You are wrong. There’s no deck switch and no need! What do faces have that cards don’t? When you turn them upside down they are in the wrong orientation!
So he knows approximately where he made them out the pictures so when he’s dealing them he sees which face is upside down turns in in the correct orientation and remembers that face and name, or the number of the card as he puts them down, and or can even lay it down on a specific location.
So it’s even easier than you say.

I was involved in selecting the pics on stage recently. There is definitely something in where he selects for you to put the card you selected back in the pack as this was not a choice either of the 4 of us could influence. Maybe also the 4 cards inserted back in the pack were facing th either way than the other 30 or so pictures in the pack so they stood out when he has a quick shuffle through?

My girlfriend and I both had our pictures taken for this. I was chosen by one of the volunteer's on the stage, my girlfriend was not. But both of our photos were visible on the table during the muscle reading.
So this explanation is wrong.
