My son who is a trainee mechanic is just about to start this job, this video has been incredibly helpful. There are a number of self locking nuts that need to be replaced and used only once, might be good to add that in somewhere

Use the spreader for removing from the strut as well as installation. Avoids all the hammering

Nice, where can I find one new like this for a 99 B5 2.8l v6 passat? I need my car back on the road asap and can not drive it til I replace the hub and don't have a press.. any info on where I could get a loaded hub/bearing/knuckle for my car would be appreciated.

I just had my front passenger hub replaced and now the and light is on and ABS system isn't working along with traction control, ASR light is on right after moving a couple feet. The brake light and chime are in but if you press the air recirculation button right next to the AC button the red light on the cluster and chime turns right off, like it's a switch our somethings crossed. And it all happened after having both hubs replaced

Oooh - Don't use the torque wrench to loosen the axel nut!! Use a breaker bar to loosen 1/2 turn, then back to torque wrench for the next 38 ftlbs, then back to breaker bar for the final 1/6th turn. It's not good to put that much extra stress on your expensive torque wrench. Use the cheap breaker bar!!

Both hubs were replaced but a week apart and the ASR and ABS lights came on instantly

man that procedure on the hub nut just seems like some volkswagen tech manual writer is pulling a LOL on us.

and also they say to replace almost every single bolt on this fricken car with a new one when changing things out... what a bunch of BS... give it a visual inspection and if it's still good reuse it.
