At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.

Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

After driving a whole bunch of these from various years I'd recommend looking for a 2018 or up. Pre-2018 models had some issues with the drive axle and more importantly the gen-3 seats found in late 2017 onwards are much comfier and almost don't wear at all. You can spot them easily since they have adjustable headrests and a less "spacey" design in the back seat. The gen-2 seats are decent but absolutely avoid the first gen seats from 2013-2014, those are downright horrible. Also make sure to get dual motor (4WD). RWD versions are still sports car fast, but only 4WD ones are "Tesla fast".

And no, the novelty of the dual motor Tesla acceleration never does wear off :)

I would avoid older than 2017 Model S because of looks but also reliability. What people don't realise there is already more than 20+ times more Model 3/Y in Australia. The S will be the trendy young timer very soon and is arguable the best looking practical EV

Youre quoting part prices from tesla but a quick shopping around online, youll find headlights for a tenth of that and replacement drivers seats. These kind of replacements are common with other high end manufacturers so its not just tesla.

I'm more keen on the Orange Datsun in the Background of Jims Workshop. 😍

I bought a used Tesla Model S P85+ with 100k miles 6 months ago for $28k. I came out of a Chevy Volt. Amazing car I went from 0-60 in 9 seconds do a car that does it in 4.3 seconds. Still getting software updates and life time free supercharging (all be it slow 60kw). I am worried as my battery warranty is only good for another 6 months. Cross your fingers.

2:40 that's the price of my car.
The problem with a second hand expensive car is that the repairs are still expensive.

The owner didn’t take much care of the interior if we’re being real

I got a shock when I saw you sitting in the frunk.I thought it had an inbuilt toilet, which would be handy on a trip.

Sad to hear that used Model S's cost SO much more in Australia than here in the USA.

Love the vids mate and I do want to purchase a model S, mainly due to they have a real speedo in the normal place in front of the driver where the model 3 you have to take your eyes off the road in front, at least that is my experience in leasing a model 3 for a few months.

The interior looks as shiny as a cab from the 90's

keep up the good work team! im sure this channel will grow heaps. Most other review channels out there pump out copy and paste reviews of new cars talking bs bout its comestic feature that i can see with my own eyes. Way more ppl buy used than new so this shit is golden right here. Good luck and im liking every one of ur videos for the youtube algorithm.

thanks for the pointers! I will likely give my Model 3 (which has been fantastic) to my son and buy a low mile ludicrous model S from Tesla...but will check the things you mentioned.
Having owned dozens of ICE cars, Tesla build quality does NOT concern me at all.

Jim must have been kidding saying" there is no engine, so not much can fail".

One question I always have with EV is, does the car need to go back to the authorized dealer for because of proprietary design and built?

What about range, how much distance and are there many charging points on long distances and time would it take to travel interstate ???

Update: on eBay headlights can be had for around $150; seat track rails for around $250; repair kit for extending doorhandles, around 30 bucks each. And 60, 000 miles to a Tesla battery is nothing, just means it’s about broke in. :)

Is the Tesla Model S something I would consider? hmm no
Why
Well compared to our Prius Gen 3 ITech fit finish and reliability is terrible. The 2009 Prius has travelled 280000k. The only things we have replaced since new was 1 inverter cost 5k and a 12v start battery. The main battery and everything else apart from service items is original. And it is regularly driven on rough dirt roads. It has even been driven in the desert on sand!
Range of the S for me is terrible. I will regularly drive long distance eg Melb to Sydney Canberra Snowies Gippsland. My friend in his S. Overnight stay in Albury ... expensive fuel
It is neither a sports car or a comfortable saloon. A real driver's car is fun and rewarding to drive. eg an XR6 Turbo or a mini or an Alpha. A good saloon is comfortable for older people to climb in and get out. Teslas are fail.
If you measure a vehicle's effectiveness by the level of happiness in its owner groups and the verdict is very very clear.
It is an SUV . SUV owners have the biggest grins on the planet.
and happiness in my book matters.

So whether you drive a Ute a Patrol a Cruiser or Colorado... enjoy the drive

And yes the Prius is infuriatingly well made and my wife loves it. And I begrudgingly admire it. But give me a Mustang any day if you love driving.
