Edit: Almost none of his most iconic roles would’ve worked without his weight. ‘Nacho Libre’ works as a comedy because of the main characters pudginess and the hilarity of such a man pursuing athleticism. ‘Shallow Hal’ works because of the irony of a fat man only going after beautiful women. ‘Tropic Thunder’ his big belly is featured and mentioned most prominently. ‘Into The Jungle’ his role is hilarious because he’s a teenage girl in the body of a fat older man. Even the roles that are out of character like in ‘The Holiday’ his not conforming to stereotypical handsomeness is his characters main thing. And his voiceover work like ‘King Fu Panda’ the characters weight is one of the main sources of comedy. With the exception of a few minor roles every role he’s ever had revolves around his weight and lack of Hollywood looks. Without his weight he’d just be another funny guy in Hollywood and there’s few roles and many competitors for such men. But as the ‘Fat Funny Guy’ the roles are many and the competition is somewhat less. He might still been a successful musician, but even that I think is due to his weight giving him a far more approachable quality. Lord knows his musical partner has made no effort to lose weight…and, really, neither of them should. Look at what happened to Ethan Suplees career after his weight loss!!
