How To Build a Custom Pitman Arm; Project Gomanche

I have always wanted to try and build a hydro assist steering system with the ram mounted directly to the pitman arm. In this video I will show you how to build a custom pitman arm for your project using part of an original arm. Plus how to install hydraulic assist steering mounted directly onto the pitman arm.

Sorry for the delay in updateing this build, it is still happening. I just got sidetracked with the launch of FourWheeler. I am still working on this beast😀 at the same time that I am working on the new videos for Big Tire Garage on Amazon Prime

We are stuck at home, we are nervous, and our routines in life are completely screwed up!

The stress this causes people cannot be described. I am so glad I just got 5 minutes to watch an old friend doing what he loves, and taking me away from all the nasty stuff in my world. Thank you so much Ian!

So glad to see this build back! I also really enjoy your approach to the build, wanting to incorporate so much of what you've wanted to do over the years into this one truck.

Ian I have a question for you, I have a 1963 international scale 80 with no title doesn’t run, I also have a 1994 GMC Jimmy with a title and does run but the gears it the rear end are done, I like both vehicles but I can only keep one if you were in my situation which one would you keep and turn in to a mudding truck, the Jimmy is a 4 door and automatic transmission, both need a lot of work to make them right.

I am really curious to see how the airbag suspension worked out

I tried running hydro assist to the pitman arm on my CJ/crawler. I felt it didn't work as well as on the axle. Now this was on a leaf spring suspension. I don't know if that made a difference but it just didn't seem to help. I ended up moving the ram back to the axle and running to the tierod. Difference was night and day.

How did you go about determining how much offset you needed on the pitman arm? I'm curious about more detail in the the taking some measurements and cycling the steering back n forth a bunch of times part.

Ok I have a question on your hydro assist steering. I have a red head gear box that is ported for assist. It goes on a 2000 Dodge Cummins running 37s. Do you notice or know of any problems using them for highway driving at speed. I know slow speed is no issue. I live in Alaska and sometimes you need it to push you off a rock or log.

That's a cj pitman arm isn't it? I know the xj's pitman arm has bends in it.
