It is rather strange and emotional to walk in Athens where she suffered and suddenly to see advertisement of Maria the movie outside of the Opera where she started. A full circle of tragedy and yet triumph. Classic Greek

I never liked A. Onassis, who in fact became wealthy in Argentina. As far as I know, he went to Argentina poor, without one cent!!! I do not like him for his terrible betrayal to María Callas, who loved him deeply, so it seems. He got his punishment by marrying a selfish and frivolous woman like Jackie O. I love the way Callas sings. I do not understand when people say she did not have a pretty voice. I wish I could sing like her or like any of these gifted opera singers. What a gift from God to sing like Callas!! Ir is true that she suffered a great deal and had many complexes and psychological issues, but she was truthful in everything. Rest in peace Maria Callas.

When one does not resolve childhood issues it is not easy to maintain a career as a star she is not the only one . When there are unresolved issues then it manifests as subconscoous self destruction.

People who know more than I have helped me understand her voice. It is not always pretty but it always portrays the drama needed for the parts. There have been many pretty voices but only one perfectly dramatic voice that was Maria Callas.

I think she gave so much, worked her voice so hard, that that may have shortened her performing career. Her repertoire was amazing. Many other singers are known for only a few operas while Maria did many. Apparently some roles can damage the voice. Marilyn Horne, in her autobiography, described certain ranges that should not be done often.

Maria gave all she had to opera and the public. Thankfully there are many good recordings.

By the time she met Onassis, she was ready to have some play time, something she had never had before in her life. It makes sense that she strayed from the grueling work schedule and found some enjoyment.
