most real shit is when he starts thinking it his fault. cause he starts saying how every decision he's made since the beginning of his life ultimately leads to this. that something I've always thought. for example. imagine I went to the then that leads me to go to another store then on my way back I see a fast food joint so I go and I end up getting hit from the back in the drive thru. I would just sit there thinking had I not gone to the first store I wouldn't have gone to the second so I would've never saw the fast food joint so I would've never have stopped there so this never wouldn't have happened ... crazy shit that we all think alike even tho we think we think very different from people

I don't think this song was chosen because of irony. It was chosen because it's beats, tone and lyrics signify activity and hope. The "upbeat" (louder beats gradually getting faster) nature of this song conveys the mood of "proactive activity" after a long lull. Bill Withers' rising tone and lyrics convey the feeling of "new hope". Basically, the beats and tone of this song have a "rising" character that suits the "hope and longing" mood of the scene perfectly. I love Danny's adventurousness in the final two sequences. Most directors would not have spent the $$$ on the long (speeded up) tracking shot leading up to the Gatorade in the van. But this "build up" conveys how special such an ordinary thing is for the character at that moment, as well as it's physical distance. The excellent final montage really brings out the kind of romanticizing we do we have when something is scarce. Liquid is as "special" to him in that moment as those ads have portrayed. Why don't film makers use more such "cut away" montages to convey moods? You have the freedom to do so on in film (not theater). C'mon filmmakers. Be adventurous like Danny was in this scene!
