When opening a grocery store you need to ask yourself, what can I do to stand out amongst my competition. Why would people come to me rather than a cheaper store with more selection? You may succeed without ever coming to that conclusion.

I was an assistant produce manager at Canada’s third largest grocery chain (starts with S). I quit to become a real estate agent but I really love and miss this business. In my department we had some of the best sales and profit numbers in the district and for certain new initiatives we were #1 in western Canada. They're building a new apartment complex with 278 units and there's a retail space for lease right next door. I'm planning on getting walk-in customers from that apartment complex in order to survive. Plus there's houses nearby which can also be potential customers. Do you think that's short sighted or a good opportunity to jump on? The closest grocery stores is a Walmart about 1 mile away and a Vons half a mile away.
