I post this Magnus Opus as a contribution to help peoples of the world to appreciate what would be like the underground USA response to highly artistic enhanced 70's European symphonic progressive rock works, very well known in the whole world like Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Il Rovescio dalla medaglia with Luis Enriquez Bacalov , Mike Oldfield etc..while Mannheim Steamroller were running almost "underground" barely known and played only by yoga meditation groups and New Age elites...
To make any attempt to describe something not belonging to "this world" is merely speculation...In my opinion , Master Chip Davis has made what can be considered like the synthesis of music... You can listen either ancient sounds from the past, strong energetic sounds from the present and weird synth timbres and textures from the future, you can enjoy and discover drum beats and complex rhythms used on pop rock , even hip-hop or country music beats, years before they were implemented, all perfectly blended and harmonized with the most exquisite harmonies evoking very subjective landscapes enlightened with mystic reminiscences...
Davis master work Fresh Aire started in 1975 under the name of Mannheim Steamroller, the first 4 works were made as four seasons expressions so spring is related to this Fresh Aire 1...

please take a confortable sit, relax, turn on the volume, and enjoy this Universal music trip...enjoy

Many a long year ago I walked into a record store (remember those?) and this album was playing. I was enchanted and asked the clerk what was playing on the PA. I eventually ended up buying all of Mannheim's LPs and later CDs. The LPs were incredibly expensive, but worth every penny.

I first listened to this intoxicating music when I was in High school. My neighbor and cousin was passionate about music, but mostly instrumental. He knew about my love for music and I remember him playing these amazing music records and I listened from my house, and fell in love with Fresh Aire. I had the honor to enter my cousin's music room and it was awesome, awesome; filled with music records ( more than any record's store) this man was and is amazing and so is his wife and son. Man, we listen and listened until we finished all he had from Fresh Aire. I was in a very special place. Music brings people from different places and backgrounds together. I had enjoyed reading all the comments posted by you all and definitely, I join all who had thanked Mr. Guru for the post. Thank you sir! I'm a happy camper.😊

I picked up a cassette of this back in 1977 (I think) as "road trip" music for the long drive to start my USAF career...never heard of them at the time. Got every release since...marvelous!

In 1996, my high school Spanish teacher, who knew that I liked unusual music, loaned me a cassette tape of this album. I took it home and listened to it as background music while working with a friend. Nothing particularly stood out. A few days later, I played it again, also as background music, but quit what I was doing and really listened-- on the 2nd listen, it hooked me from the first piece. I didn't get the puns in the titles of tracks 2, 6 and 10 until years later, and these three are still some of their most amazing work to me.

Though I've never known why, several songs on later albums contain melancholy-slanted snips of the "Sara's Band" melody.

Found this record in a small shop in Toronto in January of 2014. I kick myself in the balls every day for not picking it up.

I love the phasing in Prelude, and how it ends on a sort of cliffhanger, which Chocolate Fudge resolves :D

I have a six record set of Mannheim Steamroller and it is so versatile. I love the sound of the spread they achieve. Excellent music.

At the time, this was one of the first master disk recordings (that I remember anyway).  Most albums ran about 40 min back then because they were recorded to tape first; they could compress the grooves and put them closer together. MS went straight onto analog disk masters.  The sound was difference we striking.

I remember listening to these guys at the Greek theatre in Los Angeles. They are one on the best musical groups.

Guru, I greatly appreciated your uploading the first Fresh Aire album!  I first heard it and No. 2 around 1977 and have followed Chip Davis' career ever since.  Mannheim performed last night in Asheville NC and after almost 30 years, it still isn't dated.

I need to take exception to comments that North America wasn't well represented in prog rock.  Clearly, the groundbreakers were centered in the UK but if the definition "rock with classical and jazz overtones" still applies, you could certainly consider NA's contributions as follows:

Classic prog rock - Kansas, Rush
Jazz-oriented - John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Return to Forever
Southern rock - Allman Brothers, Dixie Dregs
Horn section - Blood, Sweat, & Tears, Chicago, Tower of Power
Funk - George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic

Thanks again for uploading several classics of maestro Chip Davis!
