❓ What Is Energy Web ❓

The grid is that interconnected network that delivers electricity from producers to consumers. However, there is a huge transformation going on in energy markets going on right now - that would be the shift to clean energy.

In the future, the primary investor in the grid is actually going to be people like you and me. We are shifting away from the old grid and investing in solar, wind, electric vehicles, smart thermostats and devices that allow us to control the energy we use. These are the future assets that will form the backbone of our future electricity system.

Right now, those assets are operating independently of how the grid works today. Energy Web aims to connect that new infrastructure between different devices that customers are investing in and the utilities.

That is why Energy Web claim to be ‘accelerating a low-carbon, customer-centric electricity system’

The challenge is getting multi billion dollar energy companies to completely change the way they do business. That involves explaining the business use-case for blockchain and decentralized tech.

That’s why it is so impressive that some of the biggest energy companies have decided to be part of the Energy Web ecosystem.

I think one of the main reasons behind Energy Web getting those big partnerships is down to a number of team members having a strong background in the energy sector. That comes in handy when it comes to speaking the language of energy companies and getting the opportunity to put forward the business case for Energy Web.

⚙️ The Tech ⚙️

Energy Web has created its own virtual machine called The Energy Web Decentralized Operating System or EW-DOS. This is made up of three main components:

► Energy Web Origin
► Energy Web Flex

💰 EWT Token 💰

Energy Web has a Swiss-based foundation and FINMA (the Swiss regulator) has deemed EWT as a utility token.

All of that adds value to projects like Energy Web because enterprise partners seem to like the idea of regulatory oversight.

However, when it comes to the SEC, the status of the token is unsurprisingly unclear.

EWT is listed on Kucoin, Uniswap, liquid and Bitmart.

When it comes to the EWT token’s use-cases:

► Tokens are used to pay for gas payments. If you want to do something on the virtual machine then you have to pay for it in EWT. This mechanism also helps prevent network spamming.
► On top of the chain there are a host of potential use-cases. One is something like an Ethereum name service. This is simply an easy way for someone to have a domain and interact with the Energy Web chain. That’s a service that could be paid with EWT.
► Messaging is also important. Most companies using it are probably going to want to send messages between digital identities anchored to the chain. Those messages could be paid in EWT.
